Dear Parents and Families,

A guest shared this note this week regarding a visit to our site.

I just wanted to let you know about a lovely moment I had when coming into the building today. A child (looked to be elementary) was walking out. He greeted me enthusiastically, so I greeted him back. He then, noticing my arm in a sling, said: " I hope your arm feels better soon." I thanked him, assured him it would be okay - and was inspired and in awe that this child would have such compassion for a complete stranger. Such a testament to this child and family, Cornerstone, the Training Center, and all of the life-changing work that is done there!  Feel free to pass that message on to whomever if you can!  It sure sends me into the ensuing holiday hustle and bustle feeling a little better, kinder, and re-inspired!

The pictures are a little silly because of pajama day, though the wish for a happy, peaceful break are very, very sincere! All of us at Cornerstone hope you enjoy the extra time with your lovely, funny, bubbly, kind, compassionate, and excited children!

Notes and Reminders

Please remember that Cornerstone Montessori School and Cornerstone Montessori Elementary School will be closed through January 7, 2018. We will resume school on Monday, January 8, 2018.

Education Scholarship Opportunity

The Montessori Center of Minnesota (co-located on site with Cornerstone Schools) is excited to announce its 2018-19 teacher training scholarship opportunities! Please click here to see the invitation to all who are interested in this opportunity.

Dental Sealant Service

Please see the attached note about a dental sealant service being provided right here at Cornerstone. The children in Elementary were visited by a representative from the program to talk about oral hygiene and they all received some new items to care for their teeth as I am sure you’ve seen by now. By returning the attached form either opting yes or no to the program, your child will receive a backpack with several more items for their use as an incentive. Please let me know if you have any questions. Participation is entirely optional and it will happen right here on site. Click here for the details.

Circle of Security Parenting  (for parents of children 5 and younger)

At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you! The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.

Circle of Security helps parents to:

  • Learn to recognize children’s needs and better understand their behavior.
  • Develop an understanding of how our responses can meet children’s needs.
  • Be supported as a parent with ideas on how to make parenting easier.
  • Strengthen our relationships with our children for healthier, happier and more secure children.

We will be offering a Circle of Security Parenting series here at Cornerstone beginning in January!  Circle of Security is a facilitated conversation amongst a small group of parents.  It meets once a week for 8 weeks.  Registration will be limited to 12 parents.   Facilitators are Terri Strom, our school social worker, and Rebecca Marshall, a parent of 3 children at Cornerstone J, both of whom are Certified Circle of Security Parenting Facilitators.

Tuesdays, January 23rd to March 13th, 5:30-7:00pm.  Dinner and child care provided.  Assistance for transportation provided upon request.

If you are interested in registering for this opportunity or would like more information, contact Terri Strom, Community Social Worker at  or 651.216.8779.

Head of School Search

Focus Group Schedule

As you know, we will be hosting focus group discussions with various groups for input regarding the Head of School Search. Please save one of these dates so you are able to participate in a parent focus group! Childcare will be provided for both sessions.

  • January 19, 2018 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
  • January 22, 2018 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

In addition, click here to view the Opportunity Statement and share it with people who might be interested!

MN Cavity Free Program for Parents

We have the opportunity to for dental professionals from MN Cavity Free Program at Community Dental Care to come and share with parents preventative oral health practices and connections to free dental services for young children. If this is of interest to you and a parent event you would attend, please contact me or Liesl.  We are looking at offering this in late January, early February when our elementary students are participating in the Community Dental Sealant event, but need to have parent interest to schedule.
