Dear Parents and Families,

It was wonderful to have so many of you here this morning for the first parent focus group. Thank you for your participation!

We have hired Kara Younkin to fill the Administrative Assistant position from now until mid-summer. We are so happy and lucky to have her! Thank you also to Connie Gottfried (she filled in for Adam when he was on paternity leave) who has been supporting us during Kara’s transition. Kara will be full time by the end of next week! Kara has children in the Toddler Community, Pond, and Garden. Welcome, Kara!

Charter School Fair

For the last 2 years, Cornerstone has been participating in the Annual St. Paul Charter School Fair held in January. Usually Chris and I go and this year we would like family volunteers to be at our table sharing your experience at Cornerstone! We have ‘big work’ ahead of us in terms of continuing to recruit a richly diverse group of families and there is no better way to do that than to have existing families share their stories with the community. If you would be willing to volunteer to come to the table for an hour, please let us know as soon as possible. Your children can share their favorite work and materials and you can share your parent perspective. In addition, you will enjoy visiting the fair and seeing all the options that might be out there for your children once they finish sixth grade! Please consider representing Cornerstone for this important event! Click here to see the flyer and all the details. Thank you!

Flu

We have many staff out ill as well as many children. We have one confirmed case of Influenza and a handful of people out with ‘Flu-like’ symptoms. It is Flu season and it is important to be vigilant about keeping your children home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness. It is important that children do not come to school with symptoms masked by medication to reduce fevers, etc. Children running fevers or who are vomiting must be symptom free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school.

With Flu-like symptoms, it is important that you get checked or have your child checked and tested for influenza early on. There are anti-virals that can be prescribed to lessen the severity and duration of the symptoms and they only work if given in the first 48 hours. This link may be helpful in determining whether you or your child are catching a cold or may have the Flu. https://www.virtuwell.com/mlp/flu-vs-cold?utm_campaign=virtuwell_flu_17m12_care_virtuwell&utm_source=ontraport_&utm_medium=email&utm_content=customer_list_conversion&utm_term=photo_v1_is-it-the-flu_

Have a wonderful weekend,

Liesl
