Dear Parents and Families,

Thank you to All for pitching in and helping shovel, support, and clear everyone out on Monday in the snow storm. We are so grateful each of you stayed safe! Thank you for your understanding and flexibility; it was wonderful that we were able to close early, get busses on their way and children largely off the roads before dark. We had some families with horrible commutes for pick up ~ it was late when we left and the whole neighborhood surrounding school was out supporting each other in finally making it home; really, really heartwarming. Cheers to the East Side!

Car Seats

Oh, do I remember those days of juggling car seats! Before you know it those days will be over and it will be almost too easy to hop in the car, buckle up, and run errands. For now, while your children are young and in light of all of the especially hard and dangerous driving in our Minnesota winters, we wanted to take the chance to share car seat law and guidelines with you. Please click here to view details!

Do you have car seats or boosters that your children have outgrown? If so, please consider donating them to Cornerstone to share. If you are in need of a car seat or a booster, please let me know and we will work to make sure you have what you need.

Thank you, everyone, for your support in helping our little people travel safely!

Dental Sealant Event

If you checked ‘yes’ on the Dental Sealant form, your child will be getting sealants next week! The dentists will be here from January 31 to February 2, Wednesday through Friday next week! They are planning to see all of the children on Wednesday and would use the other days as necessary if things take longer or if there are children who are absent. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Early Childhood Screening Offered Onsite!

Through a partnership with St. Catherine University called Serving the Whole Child, Cornerstone will offer early childhood screening for Cornerstone children ages 3-6.  Screening appointments are available Thursday, February 22nd and Thursday, March 1st, 3:30 or 4:15pm.

Early childhood screening is required by MN state law before children enter kindergarten.  Children can be screened anytime after age 3 and families are encouraged to screen early.  Early childhood screening gives parents the opportunity to see how their child is developing and identify any possible areas of concern.  Screening staff also help identify sources of help when there is a concern with any area of development.

To register for screening, talk to Kara at the front desk, call 651.774.5000 or email, When registering, we will ask families to give permission to the school to share immunization and health care summaries from your child’s school file to complete the physical portion of the screening.

Stone Soup Community Event Tomorrow!

Saturday, January 27, 2018 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Please click here to see the flyer with all the details of this special community gathering! We hope to see you all there.

Charter School Fair

For the last 2 years, Cornerstone has been participating in the Annual St. Paul Charter School Fair held in January. Usually Chris and I go and this year we would like family volunteers to be at our table sharing your experience at Cornerstone! We have ‘big work’ ahead of us in terms of continuing to recruit a richly diverse group of families and there is no better way to do that than to have existing families share their stories with the community. If you would be willing to volunteer to come to the table for an hour, please let us know as soon as possible. Your children can share their favorite work and materials and you can share your parent perspective. In addition, you will enjoy visiting the fair and seeing all the options that might be out there for your children once they finish sixth grade! Please consider representing Cornerstone for this important event! Click here to see the flyer and all the details. Thank you!

Head of School Search Focus Group

As you know, we are hosting focus group discussions with various groups for input regarding the Head of School Search. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your input; please consider attending. The remaining focus group is:

Monday, January 29, 2018 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

We have many staff out ill as well as many children. We have one confirmed case of Influenza and a handful of people out with ‘Flu-like’ symptoms. It is Flu season and it is important to be vigilant about keeping your children home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness. It is important that children do not come to school with symptoms masked by medication to reduce fevers, etc. Children running fevers or who are vomiting must be symptom free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school.

With Flu-like symptoms, it is important that you get checked or have your child checked and tested for influenza early on. There are anti-virals that can be prescribed to lessen the severity and duration of the symptoms and they only work if given in the first 48 hours. This link may be helpful in determining whether you or your child are catching a cold or may have the Flu.

In addition, please click here to review information about Influenza.

Box Tops

Thank you to everyone who has been collecting Box Tops! Please keep them coming in! Connie will be turning them in again on February 23rd. Thank you.

Hope to see you tomorrow at Stone Soup!
