Dear Parents and Families,

What a special evening it was with all of you last Saturday at Stone Soup! Click here to enjoy the photo highlights!

Dental Sealant Event

The Dental Sealant event held at Cornerstone was a great success! On Wednesday, 35 children were able to have sealants applied through Community Dental Care, a program of PICOH (Programs to Improve Community Oral Health). This wonderful team of specialists set up their mobile dentist’s office in our material making room and cared for the children during their school day, leaving everyone smiling!

Possible St. Paul School Strike

Some of you may have heard that the St. Paul School Teachers voted to authorize a strike. Please know that because we are our own district, this will not affect the regular running of our program at Cornerstone. You can see more details by following this link: https://www.mprnews.org/story/2018/02/01/st-paul-teachers-authorize-strike

If the strike happens, however, It will affect Boys and Girls Club hours. Boys and Girls Club would close early, by 5:30 or 6:00, Mr. Jones said when he came to meet with me this week.

Car Seats

Oh, do I remember those days of juggling car seats! Before you know it those days will be over and it will be almost too easy to hop in the car, buckle up, and run errands. For now, while your children are young and in light of all of the especially hard and dangerous driving in our Minnesota winters, we wanted to take the chance to share car seat law and guidelines with you. Please click here to view details!

Do you have car seats or boosters that your children have outgrown? If so, please consider donating them to Cornerstone to share. If you are in need of a car seat or a booster, please let me know and we will work to make sure you have what you need.

Thank you, everyone, for your support in helping our little people travel safely!

Early Childhood Screening Offered Onsite!

Through a partnership with St. Catherine University called Serving the Whole Child, Cornerstone will offer early childhood screening for Cornerstone children ages 3-6.  Screening appointments are available Thursday, February 22nd and Thursday, March 1st, 3:30 or 4:15pm.

Early childhood screening is required by MN state law before children enter kindergarten.  Children can be screened anytime after age 3 and families are encouraged to screen early.  Early childhood screening gives parents the opportunity to see how their child is developing and identify any possible areas of concern.  Screening staff also help identify sources of help when there is a concern with any area of development.

To register for screening, talk to Kara at the front desk, call 651.774.5000 or email, reception@mtcm.org. When registering, we will ask families to give permission to the school to share immunization and health care summaries from your child’s school file to complete the physical portion of the screening.

Flu

We continue to have confirmed cases of Influenza. It is Flu season and it is important to be vigilant about keeping your children home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness. It is important that children do not come to school with symptoms masked by medication to reduce fevers, etc. Children running fevers or who are vomiting must be symptom free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school.

With Flu-like symptoms, it is important that you get checked or have your child checked and tested for influenza early on. There are anti-virals that can be prescribed to lessen the severity and duration of the symptoms and they only work if given in the first 48 hours. This link may be helpful in determining whether you or your child are catching a cold or may have the Flu. https://www.virtuwell.com/mlp/flu-vs-cold?utm_campaign=virtuwell_flu_17m12_care_virtuwell&utm_source=ontraport_&utm_medium=email&utm_content=customer_list_conversion&utm_term=photo_v1_is-it-the-flu_
