Dear Families,

One of the things I love most about Montessori is how it supports children in being independent.  We never do for a child what they can do for themself.  By persevering and succeeding, children build self-confidence as well as skill.  I invite you to offer your children this same independence - let them put their shoes on, even if they’re on the wrong feet - and let them learn from their mistakes.  Hearing a child exclaim “I did it myself!” is one of the great joys of the Montessori environment.

We are delighted to share that Kristin Schoenherr had her baby.  Hazel Rose was born Saturday, November 10.  Both mama and baby are doing well!

As many of you know, a committed group of volunteers spent this summer constructing a climbing wall in the elementary play space.  Unfortunately, after conversations with both CMES' and MCM's insurance companies, we learned that the wall cannot be insured in a way that protects the school.  We sincerely apologize that we did not have this information before the project began, and are truly grateful for the dedication of all the parents and families who worked so hard to build the wall together.  We are in conversation with the elementary staff and training center leadership about ways to repurpose the wall into something that will be safe for the entire community and fun/developmentally appropriate for the children to use.  Some possibilities include a gymnastics area with balance beam and pull-up bar, basketball hoops, and fort-construction zone.  If any one in our family community has other ideas, we would be delighted to hear them.  We will keep you apprised as this project progresses and continue to thank you all for your patience.  The CMES board and administration has put in place processes to ensure that communication with the Montessori Center of Minnesota is kept open regarding decisions around this shared space, and addressing the outside environment is a part of the strategic plans for both organizations.

Thanksgiving is coming early this year.  Just a reminder that school will be closed next Thursday and Friday, and the Boys and Girls Club will be closed Wednesday as well.  We look forward to seeing you all just after the holiday, at the Parent Partnership event on November 26.  Your children will present their work to you - a wonderful opportunity to see what they spend their time doing here.  Upper Elementary families are encouraged to stay after for a conversation with alumni from 7 to 8pm; child care for younger siblings will be available.  Please RSVP to Zitlali (reception@mtcm.org) by this coming Monday for both the Parent Partnership and Upper Elementary events.

Have a great weekend and a restful holiday!

Alyssa
