Dear Families,

I hope you all have had nice conversations with your guides over the last two days.  Conferences are among our favorite times of the year, as we get to celebrate your child with you and hear about your own goals and hopes.

There is a lot going on right now, both in and out of school.  Please note that this Sunday ends Daylight Savings, with the clock setting back an hour.  This article may be useful in helping your child acclimate to the new sleep schedule.

For those of you celebrating Halloween this weekend, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan offers tips for having a safe and healthy holiday.

Election Day - Tuesday

As you hopefully are aware, this coming Tuesday is Election Day.  If you are able to vote, please, please do so.  So much is on the line in this election and every vote matters.  You can find your polling place at, along with early voting options in your precinct.  We know that some may be concerned about the possibility of violence overnight on November 3; we will monitor the situation closely and notify you as early as possible if we need to take any action regarding school on Wednesday the 4th.

Cornerstone Cafe and Parent Partnership

We have two upcoming opportunities for engagement with each other and with staff.  Cornerstone Cafe will be next Friday, November 6, at 8:30.  Click here to join the conversation.  And November 16, at 5:30pm, is our Parent Partnership with Megan Riemer, Literacy Specialist, on how children learn to read.  Megan will be preparing a video for families to watch ahead of time, if they’re able, and then will lead a discussion that Monday.  We hope you will join us!

CMES Survey

Speaking of engagement opportunities, thanks to the many of you who have completed our October survey.  The survey will be open until Monday and we appreciate your feedback.  One comment that has come up is a request for more information about our learning model plans.  Our learning model is assessed monthly and we look forward to sharing more information about the October discussion next week, along with updated Covid-19 protocols.

Material Pickup

The next material distribution day is next Friday, November 6, from 11am to 5:30pm.  In addition to school supplies, we will have books and food available for you to take home, and organizational tools for children who need them.  All Lower Elementary children will receive a bin for their supplies and Upper Elementary children will have the option of taking magazine holders to sort work by topic.

School Closure Days

Thank you all, again, for your understanding of our emergency school closure earlier this week.  In conversation with our staff and the Department of Education, we have determined that when Cornerstone is in a distance learning or hybrid model, an on-site school closure will be a school closure for children off-site, as well.  We hope these days are few this winter!

I hope you all have a nice weekend, and don’t forget to vote!
