Stepping Stones News 10-21-22
Hello Families,
The Upper Elementary children are getting ready to begin their Early Childhood service this fall, visiting Children’s Houses and the Toddler Community to support with recess, transitions, and reading with younger children. Molly, Lourdes, and Anna met with the children in Marsh and Forest this week to create agreements for Toddler and CH service. Molly reflected after her visit that the children are so able to absorb the expectations and principles of each environment because of the consistency they experience over their three years. Following our successful site visit with the University of St. Thomas this week, where they remarked on how innately children meet expectations here without being explicitly taught them and where they noted the longevity of our teaching staff (especially compared to other schools these days), Molly’s observations clarify how Montessori works so effectively. In conferences, coming up in just two weeks, we look forward to demonstrating this to you in your child’s work and progress.
Conferences
If you have not yet signed up for conferences, please do so as soon as possible! Your guide’s schedule can be found at myconferencetime.com/mtcm. Please note that these two days are set aside for meeting with you and conferences that need to happen outside those times take away from the guides/specialists’ preparation and work with your children. We also ask that you indicate in the comments section whether you will be meeting in-person and requiring childcare or if you would prefer to meet via Zoom. Thank you!
Winter Clothing Resources and Clothing Drive
The cold temperatures have arrived, and warm coats, mittens and hats are now a necessity. For any families seeking free winter clothing for the cold, Heather, our Social Work Intern, has put together a list of resources (and attached here). Heather is also coordinating a winter clothing drive for families to give and take, with extra items going into Cornerstone’s rotation for children. We are accepting donations of boots, hats, mittens, face masks, gloves, coats, snow pants, etc., at the front desk between now and October 31. Further information will be shared early next week. If you have any questions about either the resource list or this clothing drive, please contact Heather.
November 14 Parent Partnership & Middle School Options Night
Families are invited to join their children on November 14, 5:30-6:30, for the always-popular Children Teach Parents Parent Partnership event! Children will prepare lessons to share with their adults and family members of all ages are invited to participate. Because this is a whole family event, we will not be offering childcare this evening. Please plan to keep siblings with you.
Just prior to the Parent Partnership, our annual Alumni and Middle School Options night will take place in Forest at 4:30. Please join Mara and Jess, along with 6th grade graduates from years past, to learn about the transition from Cornerstone to 7th grade and about local middle school possibilities for your 6th year child.
Give to the Max
Next Thursday the children in our elementary classrooms will be finishing the projects they began in late September with artists from COMPAS. The children have loved this experience and we would love to keep it going in the winter/spring! Our goal for Give to the Max this year is to raise $4000 to continue our artist in residence program! Donations are accepted here, with daily drawings beginning November 1 and every 15 minutes on Give to the Max Day on November 17. Thank you for your support!
Halloween Reminder
Children may learn about Halloween in age-appropriate, historically accurate lessons, but we do not celebrate Halloween at Cornerstone. Please keep costumes (and candy) at home on October 31.

Los niños de Upper Elementary se están preparando para comenzar su servicio de Primera Infancia este otoño, visitando Children's Houses y Toddler Community para apoyar con el recreo, las transiciones y la lectura con los niños más pequeños. Molly, Lourdes y Anna se reunieron con los niños en Marsh y Forest esta semana para crear acuerdos para el servicio de Toddler y CH. Molly reflexionó después de su visita que los niños son tan capaces de absorber las expectativas y los principios de cada entorno debido a la consistencia que experimentan durante sus tres años. Luego de nuestra exitosa visita al sitio con la Universidad de St. Thomas esta semana, donde comentaron cómo los niños cumplen las expectativas de manera innata aquí sin que se les enseñe explícitamente y donde notaron la longevidad de nuestro personal docente (especialmente en comparación con otras escuelas en estos días), Las observaciones de Molly aclaran cómo funciona Montessori de manera tan efectiva. En las conferencias, que se realizarán en solo dos semanas, esperamos demostrarle esto en el trabajo y el progreso de su hijo.

Recursos de ropa de invierno y colecta de ropa
Las temperaturas frías han llegado y abrigos, guantes y gorros abrigados son ahora una necesidad. Para cualquier familia que busque ropa de invierno gratis para el frío, Heather, nuestra pasante de trabajo social, ha elaborado una lista de recursos (y se adjunta aquí). Heather también está coordinando una colecta de ropa de invierno para que las familias den y tomen, con artículos adicionales para la rotación de Cornerstone para niños. Estamos aceptando donaciones de botas, sombreros, mitones, mascarillas, guantes, abrigos, pantalones para la nieve, etc., en la recepción desde ahora hasta el 31 de octubre. 14 de noviembre Noche de Asociación de Padres y Opciones de Escuela Intermedia
¡Las familias están invitadas a unirse a sus hijos el 14 de noviembre, de 5:30 a 6:30, para el siempre popular evento Children Teach Parents Parent Partnership! Los niños prepararán lecciones para compartir con sus adultos y familiares de todas las edades están invitados a participar. Debido a que este es un evento para toda la familia, no ofreceremos cuidado de niños esta noche. Por favor planee mantener a los hermanos con usted.
Justo antes de la Asociación de Padres, nuestra noche anual de opciones de alumnos y escuelas intermedias se llevará a cabo en Forest a las 4:30. Únase a Mara y Jess, junto con los graduados de sexto grado de años anteriores, para aprender sobre la transición de Cornerstone a séptimo grado y sobre las posibilidades de la escuela intermedia local para su hijo de sexto año.
Give to the Max
El próximo jueves los niños de nuestras aulas de primaria estarán terminando los proyectos que iniciaron a fines de septiembre con los artistas de COMPAS. ¡A los niños les ha encantado esta experiencia y nos encantaría que continuara durante el invierno/primavera! ¡Nuestro objetivo para Give to the Max este año es recaudar $4000 para continuar con nuestro programa de residencia de artistas! Aquí se aceptan donaciones, con sorteos diarios a partir del 1 de noviembre y cada 15 minutos en el Día Give to the Max el 17 de noviembre. ¡Gracias por su apoyo!
Recordatorio de Halloween
Los niños pueden aprender sobre Halloween en lecciones históricamente precisas y apropiadas para su edad, pero no celebramos Halloween en Cornerstone. Mantenga disfraces (y dulces) en casa el 31 de octubre.
